Magbot – World’s First Wireless Robot Automatic Tool Changer

The robotics market is forecast to be worth $214.7 billion by 2030. This significant figure is attributed to the increased adoption of robotic technologies globally. In particular, demand for robotic solutions is growing in sectors that require the performance of repetitive tasks such as packaging, picking/placing, polishing, or inspecting. Robotic arms can carry out these tasks quickly and accurately without suffering from human error or fatigue risks. As a result, they offer a more efficient and cost-effective solution for factories looking to increase productivity. However, a startup in Korea called Magbot has gone a step further by providing a fully wireless robot automatic tool changer for robotic arms. 

Wireless Robot Automatic Tool Changer

A standard industrial robotic arm typically performs one task. For one robot to provide multiple services, it needs a variety of end-effectors (robotic hands). Therefore, for a single robot to change from one task to another, it needs a tool changer. Most tool changers out in the market use air compressors. However, Magbot is an automatic tool changer that uses the latest magnetic technology. Therefore, it offers an entirely wireless changing structure that is highly reliable and durable. Best of all it is 40% cheaper. Their main product TCV1 retails for $2,900. As other tool changers can range from $5,000 to $10,000.

Magnetic Gripper Panel

Robotic arms are increasingly becoming a staple in the food and beverage industry. Their speed and accuracy let them perform tasks that would otherwise be too difficult or time-consuming for humans. As a result, many businesses are investing in robotic arms to automate their food/beverage production line. This is a perfect example of how Magbot’s tool changer device can be applied for maximum efficiency.

One of their most popular products under Magbot is the panel-type magnetic gripper. As picking and packing is one of the common functions for many industries, their MGP (Magnetic Gripper Panel) and multi-magnetic gripper have gotten a lot of attention from the food and beverage service industry. 

Magbot is developing its Magbot Service Robot Platform for cooking restaurant-quality dishes and high-quality coffee. The cooking Magbot service robot can be seen in the video below. 

Mabot will also be showcasing its tool changer at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, and it will be showcased by a food/beverage service robot. 

The Future of Magbot

Magbot is ushering in a new era of robotic solutions. They have already attracted over $5 million in funding. Some of their clients include some of the biggest corporations in Korea, such as Samsung, Kia, and Hyundai. They aim to expand outside of Korea and into new markets. Moreover, they have already formed a partnership with Cobot and got certified by Universal Robots in 2020. 

Robotic arms can work around the clock without breaks, further increasing output. As the price of these technologies continues to fall, they will likely see an even greater uptake of robotics in smart factories in the years to come. Therefore, the demand for solutions offered by Magbot will only increase over the coming years. As Magbot continues to develop and improve its technology, it is only a matter of time before they become the gold standard for automatic tool changers for robotic arms.
